Terrebonne Economic Development Foundation

Terrebonne Economic Development Foundation (TEDFO), launched in 2006 by the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority to promote the business interests of Terrebonne Parish, including rendering financial and other assistance to the manufacturing, industrial, business and trade development of the area.

Its stated purposes also include:

  • Rendering aid to manufacturing, industrial, scientific, educational, and business establishments to induce their location in Terrebonne Parish.
  • Purchasing, selling, dividing, and leasing property and/or erecting or repairing and building or improvement for the use of any stated business enterprise in the parish.
  • Marketing the assets of Terrebonne Parish on a domestic and international basis.
  • Receiving and administering funds for projects that advance Terrebonne’s community and/or economic position.

Projects have included:

Bayou Business Recovery Grant Program – Created as a result of COVID-19, this program aimed to help companies retain their place of business. A $500,000 program underwritten by BHP, the program funded grants to 155 companies of various types across Terrebonne Parish. The companies were spread across the spectrum of ownership with 47 minority-owned, 74 woman-owned and 5 veteran-owned businesses. Assisting in the administration of the program was provided by the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, and South Central Industrial Association and Terrebonne Parish Levee District.

Bayou Business Housing Initiative – In 2021, Hurricane Ida, hit Terrebonne Parish, causing damage to 98% of structures in the parish. TEDFO pulled together a coalition of business and industry organizations to fund short-term temporary housing – used travel trailers — to 45 local residents and workers displaced by the hurricane. Funding – a total of 1.45 million — was provided by the Bayou Community Foundation, Chevron, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation, Chandamuri Foundation, BHP and other private donations. Area organizations supporting the initiative included the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, Lafourche Chamber of Commerce, Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, South Louisiana Economic Council, South Central Industrial Organization and Bayou Industrial Group. Community partners which helped identify trailer recipients included the Hache Grant Association, the Helio Foundation, the United Houma Nation, the InterTribal Council, the Pointe-au-Chien Tribal Council, Catholic Charities Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Terrebonne Parish NAACP and Louisiana Shrimp Industry Coalition.

TEDFO works hard to be good stewards the funding received. To help continue the work of Terrebonne Economic Development Foundation, call 985-873-6890. TEDFO is a private, sister organization of Terrebonne Economic Development Authority.
